My lovely afternoon with Taylor

I held a little contest on Facebook for St. Patrick's Day (just for fun) I made up this little poster and who ever wanted to be entered into the drawing had to simply tag themselves in the poster. At the time of the deadline i would number the contestant (1-how ever many people were tagged) and would randomly select a winner.

The winner ended up being Rhonda, after speaking with her she informed that the shoot was to be of her daughter Taylor.

She is one of the people that everyone loves to hate. You put her in front of the camera and she lights up and knows exactly what to do!!

I can honestly say that I am a horrible blogger.  I have not blogged since JANUARY after my engagement shoot!  Today I have decided that i am going to try and start blogging during my daughters nap time.  Key word being "try".  Im even going to go as far as setting an event on my phone so that it will remind me daily because im sure that i will forget as soon as i post this. ...Horrible Memory. 

Tips For Shooting In the Snow & Cold Weather

After my lovely and very successful engagement session at sunset (in the snow) I decided that I would share some tips that I have learned over the past couple of years to help the snowy season easier, your sessions run smoother, and last but not least...SAVE YOUR CAMERA! Hope you enjoy them!!

• Cold batteries die faster, especially in temperatures below the freezing point, so keep your batteries warm. Carry them close to your body/in pockets/under clothes. Also, bring spares and keep those warm in your pockets until ready for use.

I always carry a minimum of 3 batteries to a session. I have one in my camera, and the other two in each front pocket of my jeans wrapped in hand warmer. I do not carry them in back pockets because with all the walking, bending, and jogging that you do in the cold i'ts easy to loose them. Make sure to switch out your batteries frequently.

• Give your camera equipment time to acclimate when going from cold to warm temperatures. Otherwise, you risk condensation build-up, which can damage lenses as well as internal digital camera components. Gradually introduce it to warmer temperatures. For example, leave your equipment in the garage or on a covered porch for a while before moving it inside. 

• Another trick to prevent condensation build-up when moving from cold to warm temperatures is to seal your camera in an airtight plastic bag (such as a Ziplock). Seal the camera completely inside of the bag BEFORE moving indoors, and condensation should form on the bag rather than the camera. Leave the camera inside the bag until it’s had a chance to fully warm up to room temperature.
• If you anticipate mild snow or rain while shooting, waterproof your camera with plastic bags. Bring lens cloths or lint-free tissues to wipe off any moisture that might build up on the lens from melting snowflakes.
• Invest in fingerless gloves with a fold-back mitten top, so you can access camera controls while keeping your hands as warm as possible in between shots.

I got mine from my BEST FRIEND  Lindsey for Christmas! They don't seem like they would make much of a difference, but they are awesome! I now wear them everywhere!

*i also store my lens cloth in the fold-back mitten top, so its always right in hand ;) *

Winter Engagement Session- Downtown Indianapolis

Who says you can’t take photos in the snow? Marci and Ben were totally up for it and the results are stunning. The setting sun on the Downtown Indianapolis snowy landscape was a great backdrop not to mention the several locations we found while walking around waiting for the sun to set. Key things in cold weather shoots are warm coats,coffee and hot chocolate, Christmas lights, snow, and lots of color!

1. How did you two meet:  We met at my step-sister's wedding in August of '06. I was a bridesmaid and he was the best man. 

2. Who picked the ring:  He picked it out--absolutely no help from me!

3. The proposal story:  Ben planned a "secret date" for us. This isn't uncommon, so I wasn't expecting anything. He drove us downtown and once he parked showed me the tickets we had for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I was stoked. After the 3 hour concert, we head back to the car and he says, "Yeah... I'm going to need you to be blindfolded." Again, this wasn't uncommon for him.

After driving about 30 minutes he asks me if I know where we are and I said I had no clue. He allows me to take off my blindfold and we're in the parking lot of Steak'n'Shake, our #2 go-to restaurant. (It was too late for our other, Applebee's.) I was thinking, 'OK, he's being silly. Blindfold and WOOH! Steak'n'Shake.' After we're done eating, we leave and he says, "Yeahhh... I'm going to need you to put that back on." At this point it is 12:30 and my thoughts are... to drive me home? Really? Silly boy. But I appease him and put the "blindfold" on. (For those who are curious he forgot it... and had me use his sweatshirt... lol)

After driving a couple of minutes, he puts the car in park and says, "OK, you can take the blindfold off but keep your eyes closed." He runs around the car and opens my door and leads me down a sidewalk. After walking a short distance he says, "OK! You can open your eyes!" We were standing in front of the Toy Museum in Zionsville off Main Street. "I wanted you to see the Toy Museum lit up in lights," he says. "This was where our first date was." My interpretation was he was trying to make me less of a Scrooge. Ya know, 3 hours of awesomely-played Christmas music and showing me downtown Zionsville lit up at midnight. (We won't tell him it worked.)

He takes my hand and we turn the corner and start walking toward Lincoln Park, where we met. (Also lit up in Christmas lights.) He begins to talk about how much he loves me and how much I mean to him.

As we walked into the park he asked me if I remembered what this park meant to us. I said that of course I did, and that it was where we met.He smiled his smile and asked if I remembered where we had been standing when he met me. (I had to admit that no, in fact I did not remember this haha!) He then said it was right where we were then standing. He then grabbed my hand and walked me down the brick pathway that led to the beautifully lit gazebo. He continues talking about what a difference I've made in his life and how much he appreciates having me be a part of it.

Once we got into the gazebo, he finished his little speech and knelt saying, "Marcella Marie Lawson, will you marry me?"
After it clicked, I screamed, "YES YES YES YES!!!" 

4. Wedding theme and inspiration:  We have a swirl that is being used through out the entire event. From the invitations to the wedding cake, this swirl appears. Our colors are light blue, clover green and espresso brown. We like to think that our Big Day will be a fun, yet traditional, classy, yet laid back event.

5. Thoughts of session:  We LOVED our session with Taryn! She is SO MUCH fun and made us feel very comfortable. She has a wonderful talent and we're SO looking forward to her shooting our wedding photos! We have and will continue recommending her to people.

A new baby is the beginning of all things - wonder, hope, and many dreams of all the possibilities. From her tiny fingers to her sweet, little toes Sydney was perfect in every way. While she was wide awake during most of our session, I was still able to capture some amazing pictures of life brand new. Congratulations Ted and Deanna, your precious baby girl is quite a little blessing and such a huge gift!
